Robert Reed's Great Ship series sounds right up your alley! That's the other thing I should mention, I love lengthy timescales, another reason I'm a fan of what happened to Earth in the movies "The Time Machine". unless we of course come back and haunt the galaxy once again in the distant future :). Or just a book where humanity is not always the destroyed and then left to rot on our single planet(s). Star Trek would apply here as well, but focused on the progress (along with the exploration) of civilization specifically.Īny other books out there that not only show humanity progressing (not always positively mind you) and meeting other races, where they either take over in some way, hopefully more positively contribute to something intergalactic? I've recently been in the mood for a good sci-fi novel on this theme as well, much like Alan Dean Foster's "The Damned" trilogy. I wrote my Our Cosmic Story book on this theme (non-fiction): I'm a huge fan of the progress of civilization and how we can become a better species and expand into the Universe, hopefully working with and impressing other species along the way.
